Through the Master Mind Scholarship Program, the Flemish Ministry of Education and Training gives scholarships to outstanding international students who want to get their master’s degrees in Flanders or Brussels. The scholarship comes with a grant of €9,600 and free tuition for one academic year (60 ECTS). The only fee that needs to be paid is an enrollment fee. The grant is paid out in installments and helps pay for things like housing, insurance, and a large part of the cost of living. To be considered, students must first apply to a participating host institution in Flanders.
VALUE AND DURATION
The scholarship for the academic years 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 for a two-year Master’s program is €9600 for each year.
Upon arrival in Belgium, students can choose to have an installment of €4800 transferred to a Belgian or European account after uploading the registration certificate from the Flemish higher education institution, or opt for a first installment of €2000 to be transferred to their bank account (European or foreign) before the academic year starts, with the remaining €2800 being transferred after uploading the registration certificate.
In February 2024, a second installment of €3200 will be transferred upon completion of the first semester, and a final installment of €1600 will be transferred upon completion of the first academic year in July 2024, or in September/October 2024 in case of re-sit examinations.
For the second year of the two-year Master’s program, students must obtain at least 54 ECTS in the first academic year to receive a €4800 installment prior to the start of the second academic year. A second installment of €3 200 will be transferred in February 2025 and a final installment of €1600 upon completion of the second academic year in July 2025, or in September/October 2025 in the case of retaking examinations.
If a student does not obtain the Master’s degree or does not obtain 54 ECTS, they will not receive the final installment or the grant for the second year of the Master programme. If a student discontinues their studies before completing the Master programme, they will be required to refund a portion of the scholarship.
